Okta Personal for Workforce (EN)

Okta Personal will become generally available for Okta organizations on October 8! What does this mean for your organization, and how does it work? We explain it below.

 

When you make Okta Personal available for end users within your organization, they will see the "Okta Personal" button in their Okta Dashboard. By clicking on "Get Started for Free," they can create their own account. It will look like this:

Okta Personal can be used with both the organization's work account and a personal account. This new feature ensures that business apps, which are currently not managed by the admin but created by the end user, remain separate within the Okta environment.

Okta Personal is an app that can be downloaded on mobile phones (via the AppStore or Google Play), but can also be used in a browser. Users can create an account for free, allowing them to transfer personal apps that are currently in the business environment to their own account. This makes it easier for Okta admins to manage business apps and reduces security risks. If the user creates an Okta Personal account under their business account and later leaves the organization, the account will no longer be available to them.

 

Features of Okta Personal:

  • Overview of all personal apps in one app.
  • Passwordless access to all your passwords (with push notification on your mobile phone instead of entering a password).
  • Only you have access to your passwords, no one else.
  • Free of charge, but with all Okta’s security standards.
  • Store passwords for apps, and Okta Personal detects and automatically fills in passwords, both in browsers and apps on your phone.
  • Import login credentials you already have into Okta Personal.
  • Share login credentials with people you trust (e.g., shared accounts for streaming services).
  • Besides passwords, it’s also possible to store addresses, notes, and additional information.
  • Easily switch between business and personal apps with the Okta browser plugin.

How can you enable this for your end users in the admin console?

In the Admin Console, navigate to Settings -> Features and enable "Okta Personal for Workforce":

 

Don’t want to make this available for your organization?

Fill out the opt-out form before September 30 to disable Okta Personal for Workforce in your organization. Once you've filled out the opt-out form, your preferences will be honored, and you won’t need to fill it out again.

Okta Personal for Workforce will remain disabled in environments that currently don’t allow personal apps to be stored in the work environment. If you’ve already disabled this, there’s no need to fill out the form.

 

How can you check if it’s enabled/disabled?

In the admin console, go to Applications -> Self Service.
